no smoking

Yeah..finally there goes the lousy 2008!!good and bad things have happened in this year..no matter what happened..i'm glad to also say that i learnt a lot from the past one year. I'm also certainly happy that 2008 is finally over, because, with effect from 1 January 2009, National Environment Agency extends smoking ban to more publlic places..woohoo!!!one of the things i dread most is smoking..
  1. Indoor public places. These include non air-conditioned shops, non air-conditioned shopping centres (e.g. neighbourhood shopping centres), non air-conditioned offices, hotel lobbies, markets, multi-storey and basement car parks, ferry terminals, and more
  2. Lift lobbies
  3. Entrances and exits to buildings and facilities where smoking is already prohibited. (within 5 metres of the entrances or exits where applicable)
  4. Playgrounds and exercise areas

The ban has been extended to indoor public places and lift lobbies because these are areas where public would find it hard to escape from second-hand smoke. This is really true. I had experience where smokers just take their last deep puff and enter the lift. This really irritates me. It's no difference from smoking in the lift. Not only that. Because police will not really patrol, most of them still smoke in the lift. It's either I go in and hold my breath until the lift reaches my storey, or the person smoke inside the lift and say sorry to me!!!! So IRRITATING!!!

Entrances and exits to buildings and facilities where smoking is already prohibited were also included in the ban extension because feedback and checks on the ground have shown that smokers tend to congregate near entrances/exits to smoke. With the extension, members of the public will be able to use the entrances and exits of buildings without being affected by second-hand smoke. This only makes me think of Cineleisure..haha...

The ban is extended to playground and exercise areas to safeguard the health of children, the elderly and other users.

Now with more places being banned..I feel so so so much happier..but despite these places being banned..many still continue smoking there..just like at bus stops..haix..hope they'll know that its not onli destroying the lives of theirs, but also the people around them..
